Preparing For Your Session
A little preparation makes a noticeable difference in the final images. Here’s everything you need to know before we shoot.
Before the day
Get a good night’s sleep. Six to eight hours shows in your skin and your eyes more than anything else you can do.
Hydrate, and ease off salt and alcohol the night before. Both cause puffiness and water retention that are hard to edit out and easy to avoid.
Skip the fresh fake tan. It rarely photographs the way it looks in person, and it stains light fabrics and furniture. Your skin looks best as it is, and anything you’re self-conscious about can be handled in the edit.
Plan your looks. For a Signature session I usually move through around six outfits, so bring a few more than you think you’ll need and we’ll choose on the day. Lay them out the night before so nothing is rushed.
Bring variety. A mix of textures, colors, and coverage levels gives the set range. Think about what each look is for: what you want it to say, and where you’ll use it.
The hour before
Avoid tight clothing, socks, and especially jeans in the hour before we shoot. Elastic leaves marks on the skin that can take a while to fade and are distracting in close frames. Loose clothing or a robe is ideal.
If you’re having hair and makeup done, build in a buffer. It almost always takes longer than planned, and arriving with thirty minutes to spare means you walk into the shoot relaxed rather than flustered.
Be on time. This matters more than anything else on this list. A late start eats into shooting time, and I can’t always extend the session. Arriving unhurried is half of a good shoot.
What to bring
Your outfits, pressed or steamed if they wrinkle easily.
Any accessories, jewelry, or props that are part of a look.
Heels, even if you only wear them for a few frames. They change the line of the whole body.
Inspiration. A few saved images or a moodboard of poses, lighting, or a mood you’re drawn to. It gives us a shared starting point.
On the day
Come as you are and let the rest go. You don’t need modeling experience, and you don’t need to arrive knowing how to pose. I’ll guide you through all of it, and my only job is to make you feel comfortable, confident, and in control. Nerves are normal, they settle within the first few frames, and from there it’s easy.
A note on light
My work is built on natural light, so the brighter the space, the better the results. If you’re arranging the location, choose somewhere with large windows and as much daylight as possible. An overcast day is no problem at all, as long as the room is bright. I’m happy to advise on spaces that work well.
